The term collagraph stems from the Greek, “colla” derived from the verb “to glue”. This intaglio printmaking process involves no acids and grounds, but instead creates rich, textured surfaces and deep embossment by gluing items such as fabrics, foil, yarns, threads, seeds, papers, tapes, and organic matter such as leaves and flowers to illustration or mat board. We will experiment with puffy paints, and hard mediums as well as carving and cutting into the board for line effects and darker tones.
We will build our plates on the first day of the workshop, and ink and print them on day two exploring nontraditional intaglio inking and unique wiping methods. If you are a mixed media artist, an experienced printmaker looking for a new approach to your work, or have never touched an etching press before, this workshop offers a weekend of fun, expressive yet meditative means of creating a unique piece of art.
