Statement Carbon dioxide levels are at their highest in 650,000 years. Eighteen of the 19 warmest years on record have been since 2001. The average sea ice in the arctic has dropped 12.85 percent in the last decade. Antarctica ice sheets are shrinking by 127 gigatonnes per year. The average sea level has risen by 7” over the past century. The streets of Miami and other coastal cities are flooding at high tide. Meanwhile, the 45th president of the United States of America has pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord and has rolled back regulations that help mitigate the increase in CO2 in our atmosphere. The Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, has buried at least 45 studies relating to the negative impacts of climate change. The former Director of the EPA, Scott Pruitt, filed 14 lawsuits to block the agency from enforcing clean air, clean water, and climate regulations, rather than suing the polluters in his state of Oklahoma.
